Fieldstone GC, Delaware, USA

Fieldstone GC is a private country club featuring a Championship Hurdzan Fry Course. Nestled on 184 acres in the rolling hills of northern Delaware; Fieldstone is a scenic Par 71, 7000+ yard course featuring dramatic elevation changes, bent fairways, numerous sets of tees per hole, and old-world bunkering.

The project saw the construction of our largest synthetic sod wall to date at approximately 650 sq feet (60m2) of bunker face. Damon DiGiorgio, Course Superintendent explains:

"Nicknamed "Lisa's heart" after club founder Lisa Dean Moseley and it's heart shaped designed, this bunker is a showcase for members to show their guests and is talked about by many golfers long after playing the course. However, the cost to maintain this bunker is enormous and rebuilding it every two years was becoming financially draining to the club. Therefore, I suggested to our owner's representative that we do away with this bunker and convert to a standard bunker with natural grass banks. We were all set to convert the bunker when I discovered Durabunker being used at another Troon managed course. I did a financial analysis of Durabunker vs a standard natural grass sloped bunker. While initial costs are higher using Durabunker, cost of maintenance is greatly reduced due to zero mowing, zero fertilizing, pesticide applications, resodding, watering etc. Our ROI would be met within a matter of years"

Fieldstone GC also became the first course in the world to combine Durabunker with the Better Billy Bunker Liner, creating fully sealed, maintenance free sod wall bunkers. We have worked with many different liner products, from Capillary Concrete and Blinder Bunker Liner through to fabric liners such as Bunker Mat as well as our own synthetic liner product 'Duraliner'. All of these products can be used seamlessly with Durabunker to eliminate contamination, eradicate the effects of washout, significantly increase life design and dramatically reduce bunker maintenance.

"While only being completed for a short time now, the bunker has not moved a bit and member/guest comments have been outstanding. The main question I receive now is when are we going to do more bunkers with the Durabunker material, as opposed to 'what is going on with bunker on #18 that is falling apart', which I was hearing before working with Rhydian and Durabunker"
